I have not changed the look of this website for quite some time. I worked fairly diligently on the current theme, adapting from the most excellent Evanescence theme, using as a palate, a pile of maple leaves that Abby and I collected while walking back from Caleb’s school, which was before she was of school age.

There have been some exciting changes in the WordPress engine since, incorporating gallery functionality and threaded comments. These things aren’t worked into my current theme and I’d like to update it a bit.

Should I keep the same look? Or, should I go with something totally different?

My web host moved to a new datacenter with a faster pipe and new servers. You may have noticed that the site wasn’t displaying and, at one point, there was even a 500 error going on. Its all moved, so we’ll see how things go. It looks like the upgrade to WordPress 2.9 that I did in the downtime worked out as well.  I don’t see anything radically different yet, but I’ve not explored it much yet.

I’ve also upgraded my Drupal site. Once I figure out Drupal theming, I may even move this site to Drupal. We’ll see how that goes. From everything that I’ve been reading about it, if you really know how to manage Drupal, you can likely find lots of work in maintaining websites.

I’ve not been writing lately. Sorry. I’ve been spending more time with my spouse at night than I’ve before (I’m sure that you’ve noticed that, too, Devin).

Truth be told, I’m not motivated to write anything much else right now, but I am sure that I will be. In the meantime, I noticed that two of my WordPress plugins needed to be updated to remain current. If you’re a blog owner and you use a platform that uses a plugin architecture, don’t forget to check them once in a while. You don’t want to get caught by a vulnerability.

…that we’ll hear from the “ones in the know” in a community around a certain blogging platform, that its milestone time.

Hint: look down, waaaaaay down. :D

hours later…

Oh, look.  I was right.

The site now runs WordPress version 2.7 (Beta 3), so I am with the many testers who are trying to stay a tad ahead of the crowd.  My reasoning is to avoid the download rush, if there is one.  But, with a 3rd beta out, this might begin to be workable.  I wanted to try out the new admin layout as well.  And, what the hey.  I might actually get around to editing my comments page to work with the new features.  If you find a bug, please email me.

BTW, the Simple Tags plugin is not compatible.  Use the Simple Tagging plugin from the same author.  Now, to find out where everything is…

…especially if it involves your reputation.  If you want to make a mark on the net and not have that being a “black mark”, then you want to upgrade your Wordpress site to version 2.6.2 to avoid an embarassing hack.  Thanks to Ray for his notice of the Wordpress team’s upgrade, as I like to keep this place secure for you to curse and swear in, of course.  Do it, but back up first.

I’ve upgraded my CMS/Blogging software to the latest stable version, 2.6, which was released last night, a month ahead of schedule.  It seems that most everything that I’ve done to upgrade hasn’t broken anything much, so we’ll see how it goes.  The Digital Fingerprint plugin just wouldn’t activate, so I guess that’s the end of the old code for me.  I’ll have to find a replacement. I’m going to try the ©copy plugin. We’ll see if I like it. I think that its the one most people who’s content comes to my feed reader use.
