I’ve been seated at my new (and hopefully last) web host for a week now, and there are no real speed bumps that I can see yet. I tried to upload the directory holding my photo album, but there was a permissions problem, likely stemming from the folder being moved from another server. Replacing the folder fixed that. Now, I can upload the pictures again. Its going to be a lot of work, as I am not going to rely on the stored data from the old database. This way, the site should actually work!
For those who watch this type of stuff (and those who want the link from this little old site), you’ll be glad to know that your link is back. I did weed a few from my blogroll, as I never read them and they weren’t related to my site any more. Thanks for your patience. Check it out at the link on the top, if you care to.
I see that the whole world but me has wrote (not muc) about Wordpress 2.3. I haven’t. I have been running it since the beginning, as soon as the 2.2 code was declared stable (really, before that). Perhaps I’ll write about it. You’ll notice that my site is reasonably responsive and that’s because of the new version of WP.
I’ve also installed Debian 4.0 on my machine. I’ll likely review it soon.
I also have a few movies that I should review. Maybe I’ll get to that after all.
Who knows.
I borked Wordpress pretty badly. I think that I’ve fixed the issue (or maybe I have…). You might see some funkiness beyond the writing here…
I’m going to review what sites that I’m getting RSS or ATOM feeds from and clean up Google Reader. I’ve noticed that there are a few sites that I “bookmarked” at one time or another for whatever reason and I just don’t read them after all.
I’m going to “cut the cord” and remove some feeds and look for some that I’ve not added. Particularly, I’m looking at a few blogs that I’ve subscribed to that are either dwelling on the same topic post after post, or the ones with obvious sponsored posts that really don’t have anything to do with the person’s life.
So, if I cut you from my subscription list and you notice, you might want to think about why a reader stopped reading your stuff. I know that I’m not “normal”, but I have a lot of interests in common with others and I think that anyone who wants to keep their readers should pay attention to why they lost them.
Conversely, I think that its also important for those who have few feed subscribers, you might want to try and figure out why - perhaps its where you locate your feed links (I’m thinking about my own, actually).
I was wondering what people are experiencing as far as speed when they visit this site. Do you find that the pages load slowly? Are they quite quick in relation to other pages? I’d really like to know what I’m up against, as this server is supposed to be quite the work horse - but I’m not feelin’ it.
Oh, and if I don’t know you, can you say what country that you’re from if you choose to comment? That’ll help me figure out what to do with this whole hosting thing. Thanks.
Four days ago, the Wordpress team announced the release of the first beta of the new 2.3 release. I’ve made no secret of the fact that this blog runs on a nightly development build, which I update about once a week (its noted in the footer of every page - linked too!).
The new tagging structure is in place and, seemingly, it performs reasonably well so far. I’ve been keeping up with the releases of Ultimate Tag Warrior and haven’t felt like trying to use the built in tags yet (although I have been using both to record the tags). With all of the topsy-turvy behavior with this site in this month, I’m surprised that anything actually works (and, if you’d seen what I’d done to cobble it back together, you’d be amazed too - enough to buy me a Keiths, especially since 8-pacs of cans are on sale).
The only speed bump that I’ve come across is a few compatibility issues with plugins, which are minor. With the new fallback to disable misbehaving plugins, I’ve not been worrying about that type of problem. The only thing that I’ve had an issue with is when activating or deactivating one, I don’t return to the plugin page. All I get is a blank page. I can get back by “erasing” the trailing end of the URL in the address bar to get back to just the plugin page. Whatever I’ve asked for has been done, so the function is there. Its just the “redirect” afterwards, which is a minor semantic fix. I may contact the various plugin authors for the ones that I use so that they can update their work this weekend.
As you can see, my site’s still here, despite a major hard drive failure. So, why not get more than your toes wet. The water’s nice!
Maybe comments are broken, as I don’t see any….LOL
