bandidas.JPGWhat can I say? Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek? Beautiful, sassy, and goofy. Throw in a western theme and a few bank robberies and you’ve got a good recipe for an entertaining movie. I agree with this commenter at the internet movie database:

I have seen this movie today and i must say it cheered my day.It was funny(many laugh out loud moments), the action was very very good for its genre (Western), a good plot to go by and it accomplishes to give you that old Western feeling.Penelope and Salma were magnificent and a perfect on-screen couple. For what it is (Action Western),it deserves an applause…I don’t know why some people didn’t like it, Considering it is PG-13, Genre Action Western Comedy (and not a drama or social movie that goes for an Oscar) it’s top in its genre. It’s got what it promises and even more.It is a very fun movie and unlike what another poster said , it does deserve the money to buy a ticket and go see it.

You know, I’ve been waiting for this partnership to emerge. I’ve always thought that these two would have good chemistry and I was right. For sure, there are two leads in this movie. Steve Zahn plays an excellent supporting role in this movie as Quentin Cook, a scientific lawman that sees the justice in the women’s actions. He’s an excellent foil for Cruz and Hayek to play off of. if you watch, you will laugh out loud, you will see people get shot, and you will see lots of action. This film is a great start for 2006. Go see it. Official Website link for the lazy.

When in search of a comedy, one should stop at Prime. Even better, watch it! This movie was pure entertainment from beginning to end. Before describing any of it, I recommend it, and its not because Uma Thurman is in it (although that’s a major plus, don’t you think?). This film centers around three characters, a divorcee (Uma Thurman), her therapist (Meryl Streep), and her therapist’s son (Bryan Greenberg).

Prime is a sophisticated, character comedy set in New York City about Rafi (Uma Thurman), a recently divorced 37-year-old career woman from Manhattan and what happens when Dave (Bryan Greenberg), a talented 23-year-old painter from Brooklyn falls in love with her. The film looks at love from everyone’s point-of-view friends, relatives and in this case, Rafi’s therapist Lisa (Meryl Streep) and follows all who comes apart and some who pull it together, when two people fall in love.

This movie will challenge some fo your sensibilities, your feelings about relationships between two who are quite far apart in age, as well as religion. At the same time, you’re gonna laugh, as this awkward situation just begs for situational humor to erupt, and it does.

Well, I succumbed to the 6 times per hour advertizing blitz to get me to watch the “Funniest Commercials of 2005″. Let me just say, that if this is what we have as the top ten, then we’re a humourless bunch this year! No sense of haha! Ha!..ha…

No, really, this wasn’t funny. I’m disappointed witht he show. Its gotta be a reason to give Kevin Neelan a cheque once a year, kinda like what we do here in Canada for politicians - give them a senatorship (5 days a year for 6 figures!). Thank gawd CSI’s on now. Maybe I can get some entertainment outta my TV after all.

I’m afraid that Ted Turner has me hooked into another of his mind control weapons.  I was trying to avoid the show Daisy Does America as I knew that I’d probably find one faintly interesting thing in every episode to keep me coming back.  The first episode with her trying out as a bounty hunter was a bit snoozy, I thought, and I missed last week, but this week’s episode has kept me watching.  She’s trying to become a rapper worthy of battle.  Its a funny episode.  I may have to watch again next week.

Check it out!

Many in the world have heard of Karla Homolka, the woman convicted of partnering with Paul Bernardo. Since her release from prison, the media has been pouncing on any tidbit of information about her.

Now, she’s gotten a job at a hardware store owned by Richer Lapointe. Mr Lapointe has been secretly taping his conversations with her and has givien these tapes to the police. The “news” shows (with this tripe, I can’t remove the quotation marks) have been feeding on this like it was filet mignon! This violation of her privacy is being passed off as “normal” and “okay”. Perhaps Ms Homolka is the heinous devil that she has been made out to be. Perhaps she is heartless and antisocial. Regardless, she did the time alotted to her and is now out and free to do what she wants.

Does Homolka’s past actions entitle Mr Lapointe to assume the vigilante role and rat her speech out to the police? Last time I recall, even the police needed a court order to secretly “listen in”. Funny, I didn’t see Mr Lapointe’s badge in any of the news stories…

Caleb has one week left of school and then he’s done his kindergarden year. I was just watching him get on the bus and I realized, with a bit of sadness, that I won’t get to see that all summer. I just love the way he backs up as the bus arrives, as if to get a run-on, and runs quickly in place like Fred Flintstone starting his car. He then springs towards the bus the minute it stops. Its funny what you get used to and accept as normal.
