Today I write to the internet community at large because i happen to be online.
Not only am I online, but I just caled Rogers a short while ago and got my modem provisioned with a new bootfile. Now I have, instead of the speedy 3000down/384up I started with, the new EXTREME speed. I’m cooking with gas at 5000/800, verified at BroadbandReports, where I clocked about 4400 downstream and 800k up, pretty much on target. Now, i’ll get an extra $99 on my next cable bill. There’s always a downside, I guess. I am the new proud owner of the Scientific Atlanta DPX2100 that I have been “renting” for the last two years. As of today, my new 1 year warranty starts on it.
I was under the false impression that I would have to trade in my modem for a DOCSIS 2.0 model, as the recommended ones on the Rogers website were all of that range. I didn’t really see the point of such an “upgrade” as the bandwidth usage depends more on the frequency, AFAIK. I was right in thinking that my DOCSIS 1.1 modem was up to the job (I read that on 6mhz frequency, which we are in North America, is capable of 11mbps). A quick phone call and a minute to have to bootfile flashed and replaced, and I was cooking with gas! Now, I have a rating of DUDE! at BBR. Now, if I can only replace that bottleneck in my LAN, known as a crapsys router. It will knock me offline and create a sluggishness tha’s purely annoying. Ah well. There’s always tax refund time….
