Is it a bad thing that I take a small pride in getting almost all of the answers right?

I doubt that this will last, but I woke up this morning to about 5 cm (2 inches) of snow on the ground.  Its is supposed to get above freezing today and the precipitation is supposed to go through the morning, so it’ll probably rain off.  But, this is a sure sign of things to come, I am certain.  I get the feeling that this winter won’t be starting off with 10-12% warmer weather, like last year did.  This time last year, the news became inundated with “global warming” scares.  I wonder what will be the fashion in the news this year.

You read it right. This morning, I looked out the window and the ground has a coating of snow. I suppose that John had to walk home in it if he was working last night.  Its not much, so I’m sure that it’ll be gone soon after it gets light out.  I guess this is the usual for this time of year.  Its either cold and rainy, cold and colder, or it snows.  I’m surprised that we don’t do Halloween a bit earlier in the year.

So, I’ve got the car registered and insured, but its 30 miles away. Wish me luck on securing a ride to get it tonight (I’ll need it). I’d rather not bike or hitch hike out to get it.

I will now!

Has anyone who has upgraded to WP 2.3 noticed what the default blogroll is? It seems that the whiners on the forums have won and got the authors’ addresses removed from the default. Now, there are helpful links to wordpress sites, like the codex. This is a good move, I think, but I wish that it wasn’t forced to become in the manner that it did. I honestly don’t think that the originals had ever thought of all the SE “juice” they’d get from being linked to all the blogs out there running WP being run by people who are too lazy to uncheck the links in the blogroll (I left a few in because I read those blogs - don’t worry, folks, you’ll be back in, likely this weekend, when I add that table back to my database).

On the other hand, would you still read my stuff if I wrote daily a one line post which linked to somebody else?

I’m going to review what sites that I’m getting RSS or ATOM feeds from and clean up Google Reader.  I’ve noticed that there are a few sites that I “bookmarked” at one time or another for whatever reason and I just don’t read them after all.

I’m going to “cut the cord” and remove some feeds and look for some that I’ve not added.  Particularly, I’m looking at a few blogs that I’ve subscribed to that are either dwelling on the same topic post after post, or the ones with obvious sponsored posts that really don’t have anything to do with the person’s life.

So, if I cut you from my subscription list and you notice, you might want to think about why a reader stopped reading your stuff.  I know that I’m not “normal”, but I have a lot of interests in common with others and I think that anyone who wants to keep their readers should pay attention to why they lost them.

Conversely, I think that its also important for those who have few feed subscribers, you might want to try and figure out why - perhaps its where you locate your feed links (I’m thinking about my own, actually).

Snoskred has written a post on her blog entitled “14 Reasons Readers Unsubscribe From Your Blog.”  I’ve been meaning to post something similar, but I don’t think that I could do a better job. Go read it. You might gain some pointers.
