Wow, its climbing up there in temperature.  Yesterday was so muggy and warm that I didn’t think that I was going to see it cool down in oru apartment.  Today’s forecast is a humid 30°C and it seems that it might be there.

Unfortunately, the air conditioning in our building here at work seems to have an inverse relationship with the outside temperature.  The hotter it gets outside, the colder it gets in here.  I’ve just put on my sweater to stave off the shivers for the rest of the day.  Anybody else in this situation where they have to take their jacket or sweater to work when it blazing hot outside?

I’d love to get an autograph of your Air Conditioner. It’s so quaint — does this kind of mythical creature actually exist?

I have experienced only air-conditioners that chill to the bone when it’s cold outside and remain uncomfortably warm when it hot outside.

It is true! It exists in our building! The banks would be jealous of the (over)cooling power of our cooling system. I can accommodate by wearing a sweater (which I drove down to the local discount store to purchase, since I forgot one), but when I get home, I am subject to the full blast of poorly circulated hot air in our apartment. With the constant deep freeze at work, I am not acclimatized to the heat and the time that I should be enjoying is spent in a miserable quest for heat avoidance.

My aunt always talks about this when she visits Phoenix, Arizona! They overcompensate with the desert heat by cranking up thier air conditioning! But with energy prices going sky high maybe this dilemma will soon work itself out. * gulp *

Actually when you think about it, it’s not so odd - this behaviour of Air Conditioners.

When the ambient temperature is high the compressor tends to run continuously as the thermostat regulated temperature might never be attained. As a result, the cooling tends to be continuous and feel chilly compared to the outside.

When the ambient temperature is low and the air conditioner still works, the thermostat tends to switch off the compressor and only the AC’s fan works. This might create periods of warmth and cold alternatively in the area.

Of course, when it’s very very hot outside, the compressor might not be powerful enough to cool the room sufficiently in any case.

I think that our problem is that the main air intake comes here first. This causes a problem with “fresh” air as well, as the ehaust from motor vehicles that idle outside will enter the building here first (and, yes, there’s a 15 foot high sign with BIG RED LETTERS saying to turn off your engines - not everyone can be the sharpest tool, you know).

Normally, I would experience having to put on a sweater at work when it’s an oven outside, but our a/c has been messed up on our end of the building. Really bad thing too since we are on the same end as the server room.

I live in Texas. You appreciate any air conditions below 70F (21C for you people who won’t submit to our stupid American standards). I would kill for 30 Celsius today. We’re suppose to reach 38 Celsius today with the humidity always above 50% or more, usually 70-80% or so.

I know that I shouldn’t complain, with so many others getting it even hotter outside. I can’t imagine what RT goes through in the Philippines. I am okay at work, though, if I remember to bring my sweater.
