A few days ago, Lorelle Van Fossen wrote an article for the Blog Herald, entitled Blogging Jobs: How Much Are Bloggers Paid to Blog? Lorelle, in her tireless and complete style, has tabluated and shown how much a blogger has to work to make a decent living at blogging. Its eye opening when you see how many $5 posts you’d have to do to earn a decent annual income. I could see early on that this was not going to be a serious money maker for me, so that is why I didn’t get started in the whole mess with paid posting. Too much work for too little return. I have gotten much more value out of the time I have spent with my family instead of in front of a screen churning out crap that I didn’t mean about a product that I’ve never used.
Read Lorelle’s article. If you take it to heart and choose to be paid to write - what you’re worth - then you can help improve the situation for everyone. 176 words. Hmmm.

That was an interesting read, Corey. What amazed me is all the information regarding those who want to make a living from freelance blogging. Though it is possible, it takes a lot of work and talent and this shocked me! If there is a job that exists out there for describing the pros and cons of different Linux distributions, then you are set big time, Corey!
Thanks for blogging, and I will send you $5.00 for this post! hahaah
This all depends on who you ask IMO.
You know I have done this awhile back, and still occasionally do the $100-$150 Per Post (200 words).
You’ll never see me write 200 words for a measly $5.
There was a time when I had my PR 5 that I was making $200-$300 (on a good Day) per day from writing a few 200 word posts. So in my eyes it was well worth the 2 or 3 hours spent writing them.
Unfortunately since Google Bitch Slapped me, I haven’t been making that money anymore.
I believe if I did it right the first time and and included the tag=”nofollow” in all those paid links, that I would still be coining it, since Google would have left me alone.
I don’t care what others think. All I can say is, there IS damn good money in this, if you have the right PR and taste. I was thinking about doing it for a living, but thankfully I didn’t make that decision to hastily sine Google Bitch Slapped me.
As long as there is something worthwhile posting about and as long as the money talks. I’ll take an advertisers $100+ bucks from them, just as long as it is tasteful. And I have some sort of interest in their thing.
But like I said. It all depends on who you talk to.
I don’t make squat with my blog. I never intended to make money though. I actually lose money each month with my two servers in a colo I share with some friends, along with hosting friends/family. But it’s worth it, I’d rather keep my online domains and such elsewhere instead of at home. It’s actually cheaper, getting dedicated IP’s, redundant power and the bandwidth allocated. Plus I don’t have to build some sound proof room or closet with the A/C pumping into it so the servers don’t go up in flames. I’d say it’s worth the $150.00 a month I pump into my servers at secure co-located facility.
And I have google ads on some of my sites, over the past 2 years, I’m now up to
$46 bucks, I’m hoping in 2 more years I get my first check cut out to me from the man at $100.00
Hey, does it take serious analysis to figure out that blogging can never be a full-time income generation activity?
Some people need it, apparently.
Generally it’s not a money maker unless you’re right at the top. I’ve had one or two high paying posts, but it’s rare. Sad
@the english guy - I have to agree with ya Rich.
I’ve been contacted for reviews for $100+/ea. They don’t come often, but I’ll take em.
