I watched I am Legend tonight. I wasn’t sure what to expect. After all, a zombie movie with Will Smith in it? But, I suppose that its not going to be quite the same as watching War of the Worlds, which didn’t quite have the “punch” that I thought it should have had.
This movie entertained me from beginning to end. It was far less grotesque than 28 Days Later but it had a similar plot line.
Based on the book, I am Legend, by Richard Matheson, written in 1954, this movie centers around a single surviving character who is determined to find a way out.
In the same way that you liked Will Smith in movies like Wild Wild West and the wildly successful Men in Black, you will be kept at attention until he lets you go…at the end of the movie. I think that Mr. Smith is coming into his own and we are just beginning to see what he can do. After seeing him play his role in The Pursuit of Happyness, I think that we are going to see even a few more surprises from Mr. Will Smith.
Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague — The Infected — lurk in the shadows… watching Neville’s every move… waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered… and quickly running out of time.
This movie gets my approval. If you want so entertainment and you like zombie movies, this one will keep your zombie craving satisfied. Along the zombie lines, I’ll be watching another one soon. Look for a review of Planet Terror next.
I think this was a very good movie . Will Smith is starting to really strike me as one of the really great actors of our time.
There are some really heartbreaking parts to this movie. (I really don’t want to ruin it by giving it away though).
It does go a step higher than the standard zombie movie though!
Todd
I agree with you, Todd. You said what I was unable to. Its dicey, sometimes, when you’re reviewing a movie, as you don’t want to be a spoiler. I always try to hook but not reveal too much, as I hate spoilers.
I definetely will be seeing this. A friend at work, Randy, said he was surprised with this movie and Will Smiths acting so this is a must see. He was surprised that it only got a 68% at RottenTomatoes.com though that score still qualifes it as being “fresh”!
Will Smith is now one of my favorite actors. I put him along the same level as Tom Hanks. If you can entertain me for over an hour and you’re the only person in the movie for a large majority of the movie, then you are a great actor. Tom Hanks did it in Cast Away, now Will Smith did it in this movie.
This was the first movie in a very long time that had me thinking about it for several days after seeing it. Now I just have to go see “There Will Be Blood” which I heard has the same affect, makes you think about it for days after seeing it.
I agree with you on that, Drew. I want to see that movie as well. You might also want to check out last year’s “Persuitm of Happyness” for another side of Will Smith’s acting.
I managed to go see “there Will Be Blood” on Saturday night. Highly recommended. Daniel Day-Lewis was phenomenal. If he doesn’t pick up a crap load of awards, there’s just something wrong with the world then.
