Caleb asked me how I achieved a few of the effects that I use on the Gimp, so we sat down with a picture and started playing around.  Abby saw and sat down as well.  We got a bit goofy and here’s the result:

This is just wrong!

    ROFLAO!

I see they have developed that extra un-needed eye since that last time I’ve seen them.

Good job with such a tool.
    Kudos 2 Corey!

I left the red eye in because it made them look that much freakier. I can’t get them to stop looking directly at the camera. OMG, that is still so funny!

I probably could be coerced to post a higher res pic. I also could possibly be convinced to remove the words post, blog, comment, and some others if the spammers go away. I’m going to hack the SSF verbiage and change it to something direct, like, “I really need you to click the button to prove that you’re a human.”

Can you let me know how exactly you achieved these effects?

Sure, hari. This was a pretty easy effect. I’ll get more specific shortly (when I make a bit of time for it), but basically, I used the ellipse select tool to select regions to alter and then applied the lens filter in the Gimp with a refraction value of about 2.0.

What lovely children you have, Corey

Is Gimp like a photoshop program? I wonder if I can do the same effect with my PSP program. I’ll have to check it out.

Nice to “see” you again, Skye! Yes, Gimp is an image editor like Photoshop or PSP. Its interface is quite different than the other two. To be honest, I find Phontoshop difficult and unintuitive to use, probably because I learned to use Gimp first. I am sure that there’s an effect like this in PSP, but I couldn’t point you in the right direction since I haven’t used PSP since about 1998. Gimp is free, which is one of the reasons why I started using it (making it about $400 less than Photoshop), but its also available on several Operating systems/Platforms, so I use it for that - I don’t have to use a different program just because I’m using a Windows machine, for example. That’s actually the only reason why I use OpenOffice instead of the lighter Koffice.

Nice to see you too, buddy ©¿© Been missing your geeky talk, so thought I’d stop in

I have a little time off the next couple days, so I’m gonna play with PSP and see if I can recreate your bug-eyes. I’ll also check my macbook to see if it has any free programs on it I can play with. I’ll let you know what I find out.
