Before I started working in my present job, I’ve not seen such a thing.  So, when I see it now, I wonder whether I’ve just been dim or whether its just strange behavior after all.  Our building used to have a bowling alley in it.  In the area which I believe to have been a staff area, there are two individual washrooms.  There  are public washrooms in the building as well.  These individual washrooms are side by side and clearly labeled “Women” and “Men”.  I’ve noticed on about six occasions that a woman will go straight into the “Men’s”, even if there is no one in the “Women’s”.  I’ve never seen a man do the same thing.  As a man, I would never dream of using the women’s washroom, as its been set aside for women.  I’d go elsewhere if I had to and I don’t know of a man who wouldn’t do the same, out of respect.

I’m not trying to start something big here, but I’d really like to know if this kind of thing is common.  Ladies, would you do the same as those I’ve experienced? Guys, have you seen this? Would you waltz into the “Ladies” if you had to go? Or would you hold on until you found a “Men’s” somewhere?

I can’t believe I’m the first person to comment on this subject. It’s so universal…lol.

I’m thinking that if it’s the same woman all the time, that maybe she is a transsexual and hasn’t gone through the entire change yet, and so your company is forcing her/him to use the men’s room. Don’t laugh, I’m serious. I used to work at an employment agency, and we knew one of our temps was legally still a male, and we had the dilemma of whether we were obligated to inform our clients of this fact, and if we did, would that be against the rights of the individual?

At another company I worked for, we were sure there were 1 or 2 transsexuals, because when they used the ladies room, they always seemed to be standing facing the wall, not the door. They were the nicest “girls” though, so the rest of us real girls didn’t complain.

Oh, and no, I do not commonly go into the men’s room, not even at concert events when the line for the ladies room is wrapping around the stadium, and the men’s room doesn’t have a line. Though, I did accidentally go into the boys room in elementary school one time and was mortified!

I was going to comment earlier, but time was an issue, but I think that guys won’t do it because it’s so easy for some chick to blow the situation out of proportion and ending up with the guy being handcuffed. But if a chick walked into the mens room, we would be OK with it. At least the guys who aren’t ashamed. ( I have no shame. ;P )

Skye, you’ve worked in some odd places it seems :???:

I have used the Ladies Room on occasion, but only when it is a single washroom with a locking door. I have to admit it was becuase the men’s was in use and I really had to go. Men and women, and girls and boys, use the same washroom in my home why should work be any different. Communal washrooms like schools and large venues I understand but small single user ones, just mark them as washroom thanks!
