RIP SkylarkSo, here’s a stock picture of my car.  You’ve seen it before in a previous post.  Soon, I won’t be seeing it.  Ironically, after I spent over $600 to get the coolant system repairs, I get a month of use and the engine blows.  On the way home from work last night, the engine stops working properly and begins to run rough.  I feel it losing power and I am on the approach to the bridge.  I decided that it was not worth it to risk a stall on the bridge and pull into the local gas station and call a tow truck.  Off to the garage I go.  The recommendation of the mechanic after starting the engine to a clattering, squealing and chattering noise was that it needed a new engine.  So, now I have to dispose of this old girl and get a replacement.  I really didn’t need this expense at all! Foresight would have been handy before I sent it off for the first repair.

Ah well.  Life can’t always go well, right?

Oh man. I’m sorry to hear that Corey. That is one of the main reasons I can’t afford to own a car. With the unpredicatably of gas prices, the outrageous cost of insurance, and the yearly cost of repairs being a car owner is super expensive. What I hate the most is that you spent 600 dollars and didn’t get your return! But like you said, that is life sometimes!

Keep on trucking nonetheless and everyone, lets go green!!

Jeepers, you would have thunk’ it that they would have mentioned any engine problems to get more cash from you when you dropped the $600.

Devin, I like your idea, but once you have a car and loose one, you really regret loosing it and that feeling sucks. You don’t realize how important transportation can be at times.

Corey, are you going to get anything from the bucket of bolts to be able to put on a replacement? I know when I took it for a spin I can remember it being in good shape, except for the engine apparently.

They say things happen in threes, 1. You dropped $600 into it, 2. engine blew up, 3… coming soon!

This stuff can happen. I think that I got off pretty easy, in a way, though. For the 3 years that I’ve owned it, including the purchase price, maintenance, and repairs so far, its cost me around $4000, which is only a little more than $100/month. Some people lease vehicles for 3 or 4 times that price, only to give them back in the end.
