From the first time that I had French Toast, I ate it with ketchup and salt and pepper. It wasn’t until I got out my parent’s house and saw a girlfriend prepare the dish, that I knew there was a different way to eat it. As I learned, it wasn’t her that was the weird one, but I. It turns out that putting syrup on French Toast is the more common method. I’ve seen and prepared the stuff with cinnamon and nutmeg since. Even whipped cream is not uncommon.
I still prefer the dish that I grew up with, but I can stand the sweet sickly one that the rest of the world knows (it only took 15 years). Is it that weird? After all, you start with eggs.
The first time I saw someone (when I first entered the military) put ketchup and tabasco sauce on eggs, I was weirded out. Ketchup on anything since has never raised an eyebrow from me.
I don’t think I would like the taste of Ketchup on French Toast. I’ve always had it with Maple Syrup.
I used to have Ketchup on my eggs when I was younger though, but not anymore. Lost the taste for that I guess.
RT, Tabasco sauce on eggs is actually pretty good, that and Hot Sauce.
Hmmm, I’m getting hungry now.
I’d have never thought of ketchup on french toast, but I did recently decide to try making a savory spicy french toast instead of a sweet nutmeggy one. I haven’t tried it, but I bet it’d be great with ketchup.
The mention of your idea caused me to think of another “eggy” treat that I like, which I now may have to try with toast - Tex Mex French Toast! I’ll call it the Latin reunion! It’ll have to be eggy french toast, perhaps with salt and pepper (or maybe Cilantro) with slsa and cheddar/monterey broiled on top. Too bad I ran out of salsa.
Like your thoughts, by the way. I’ve added you to my links list.
french toast with ketchup is the best………always eat it that way
