So I’ve had a P-III 1000Mhz(1Ghz) with an ASUS CUV4X-C board for a while. I didn’t know if it would POST or not, but I was hopeful. The thing is that I didn’t want to invest any amount in this possible junk if it didn’t work, as its getting long in the tooth as far as technology is concerned. I asked on the local Freecycle group if anyone had a case and power supply that I could get started with. With the parts I’ve got laying around, that would be what I needed to get the thing “lit up” if it would work. So, I got a reply with a Compaq case and power supply (with a board and Celeron 600 inside). Thanks, Compaq, for making a case that will only fit what you intended. It was too short, and was only good for the Micro-ATX board that came with it. I don’t have any RAM that would help it POST, so I don’t know if that board is any good. So, I gave it away with the processor and ended up getting an ATX case to go with the Compaq power supply. The thing is that I was a bit late and the fellow who gave it to me had stripped the power switch and the LEDs out of it so that it was ready for recycling. So, now I am to figure out how to get either the proprietary Compaq power switch or the Sparc power switch to work with this case. This should be interesting. Oddly enough, this case will need no outside modifications, so it won’t likely look so Franken after all.

Wish me luck.

Update:

I’ve gotten enough parts together to make it run.  So, I know that its now worth a small investment.  I’ll need to get a sound card and a network card for sure, as well as some RAM.  A better video card will come next, but none of these will be of the expensive variety, as I can’t justify the s expense in light of other things that need to take my money from me (like the rent).  So, I’ll be off as I steal the network card and another 256MB stick of RAM out of this computer so that I can get the operating system installed on the other.
