So, my main tools for file manipulation with this site are the built-in editor of Wordpress (because hacking the code is just faster sometimes) and cPanel’s file manager, especially when I have uploaded a compressed file, like zip or tar.gz (I think it handles rar files too). When I don’t feel like logging into cPanel and navigating to the right directory only to manipulate files and directories one at a time, I use a combination of 7zip and Filezilla. I find that 7zip can handle nearly any compressed file with ease and Filezilla is an easy to use but reasonably powerful tool for ftp. Its also great to change permissions of many files in a directory at the same time (great when you don’t have shell access to the server).

What I’d like to see is the ability to uncompress the files on the server as well as the upload, like cPanel’s file manager can. So, my question is:

Does anyone know of a way to uncompress files on a remote server from your ftp client? Can this be done with Filezilla with a plugin?

I used to do that a long time ago, but that was the days of telnet and serurenet - I believe FTP programs do it now with the gzip command.

    I’m tired.. ZZzZZZZZZZzz
