I feel that I have to finally come up with a WP theme. I’ve been hacking the crap outta others
works since I swapped from blogger (and I might go back to the beta if it keeps going well).
Its time that I figured out how to make a theme. I’ve got some ideas. The colors will be coming from this. These are leaves that Abigail and I collected on the way home from taking Caleb to school.
I have never found a single wordpress theme that had everything I wanted in it right off the bat. Trackbacks weren’t added, no place for comments before and after etc. All kinds of stuff. I’ve hacked every single one I’ve ever used. No place for a personal header unless you hacked it; on and on and on. I’m sure YOURS will have all the ducks in a row.
LOL. Diane, you have a lot of faith in me completing this task. I’m going to have to sit down and learn how to do this stuff (which I should have done a long time ago). I don’t know why, but when I hack someone else’s code, I have no problem understanding what I’m doing, but when it comes to creating my own code, especially with WP and its wierd pseudo-PHP calls, I’m at a loss. Its time to get past that one.
First you make a template with no WP tags at all. For example, when you get to the part you want your post displayed, just put a bunch of filler text and the same goes for the sidebars and the header footer and so on. naming the div tags in your css file. Editing the li and ol and ul codes, bullet, H1, H2, H3 and so on.
Once you have that all laid out the way you want, then you add the WP tags replacing the filler text. Keeping the origional saved as backup, that way you can use the same template for your single pages and archive pages.
You say this like I won’t be grilling you about it! LOL! Thanks for the start, my friend.
Do you two ever get together in person anymore? If so, why don’t you just set aside a couple hours on a Saturday and do it together?
