I watched Find Me Guilty, directed by Sidney Lumet, today. I was quite surprised by this movie. It had its share of comedy but was also quite dramatic. Vin Diesel’s performance was surprisingly good. I usually find him to be a bit “fluffy” when it comes to acting. I haven’t really believed him in the roles that he’s played before (with the exception of his role in Pitch Black), although I’ve been a constant fan. This movie is based on true events about the longest mafia trial in US history. Vin Diesel plays “Jackie” DiNorscio, who has decided to defend himself, which leads to an interesting conclusion to the trial.

Sent to prison on a drug charge, Jackie Dinorsio refuses to turn government witness against his former associates in the New Jersey Lucchesi crime family. However, prosecutor Sean Casey mounts a huge case under the RICO statutes involving dozens of defendants and their attorneys, including Nick Calabrese. For Casey it looks like an open and shut case, until Jackie, who is already serving thirty years, decides to defend himself. Initially dismissed as a lunatic, Jackie has a forceful personality and an intrinsic understanding of the legal process that gradually change the course of the trial.
I would recommend that anyone who just wants a laugh and a story to accompany each other in the same movie to watch this movie. The language is a bit strong, so use parental discretion, but see it. Heck the score in the background is catchy too.
