Angela and I watched The Hills Have Eyes this weekend. This is the Alex Aja remake and its quite eerie. I haven’t seen the Wes Craven original from 1977, but it seems that the theme of a nuclear testing ground resulting in monsters is still a valid thriller. Here’s a partial synopsis, borrowed from BLOODY-DISGUSTING.COM:
…the story of a family road trip that goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carters soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually the breeding ground of a blood-thirsty mutant family…and they are the prey.
There were a few spots in this movie where Ange held her hands to her eyes, but she didn’t actually cover them. I’m a bit of a gore freak, to an extent, so I don’t do that stuff (but I probably should - insensitive bastard that I am). The story was a tad weak, as is the norm for most horror films. I have to agree with the reviewer from bloody-disgusting.com, in that the opening scene’s violence is hard to top, or even match. But, we did get through the whole thing awake, so that’s a good thing for a horror film. Watch it if you like. Its par for the course.
Like Gore Do Ya. Then watch Hostel if ya’ havent already.
I like the gore to a point. Hostel goes way over the line! I watched it months ago, but didn’t bother reviewing it at the time, cos I was qiute sick with the flu, and I don’t get paid for these reviews (LOL - reminds me of something Skye wrote). If that piece of crapparoo movie had a story, then I might have enjoyed it through the gore. But, Hostel falls short for me (yes, I know there is a story, but its weak and unravels way too late and way to short).
