Another Opinion Among Many

Let me start by saying that I may be a bit biased, as I like Sharon Stone. Yes, I do. I also think that she’s a good actress. Yes I do. Was Basic Instinct 2 her best film to date? No it’s not. Was it as terible as the reviewers say? No it’s not. Is it a let down fromt he first? No its not, unless you’ve lobotomized yourself and can’t remember that the first one wasn’t the best film of the year either. The amateurs slaughtered this film. This “reviewer” goes as far as stating they prefered “Gigli” and “Son of the Mask” to this movie. They’re on crack! Those movies were terrible! This one is just a bit cheesy. The reviewers listed at the Yahoo! movies rating are no less nasty, giving the film an average D+. I do agree mostly with the reviewer from Rolling Stone, who claims a fetish-like interest with the original movie. I was not let down by this movie, as I didn’t think that the first one was any great shakes, but I do watch it on the television when nothing else is on, as I do think that a fantasy-like, almost cartoonish, story about a predatory vamp messing with her male victim’s head, as she seduces him (and all around her, courtesy of a few flesh shots) is worth a few minutes of my time, when nothing else better is there to occupy my mind.

So, if your head is fuzzy and you have some romantic notion about Basic Instinct being that great movie that you remember fondly for its great plot development and terrific acting, you will be disappointed in this film, as your head is up your butt. If you want proper context, go rent it before you see Basic Instinct 2. You will find that they are both clearly “B” cheese, and if you don’t watch them as you would a cartoon, then you won’t like either. And, don’t cry about how I exposed the first movie as less than your hazy memories want you to believe. Just watch this movie and marvel about how good Stone looks at 48. Hint: if you want to watch this movie after Catwoman, you’ll think that Stone’s acting is better than it is (and save a few bucks by waiting for it to come out on video - shouldn’t be long).
