I’m a fan of karate/kung fu movies. I alwas have been. So, it was natural to want to watch a movie that starred a natural martial artist, such as Jet Li. The thing is that the movie that I picked did not contain a lot of fight scenes. Don’t worry, there were a few, and they were quite violent.
This would be Unleashed (Danny the Dog, in Hong Kong). This movie stars Jet Li, as Danny, a boy raised as a fighting machine, trained to be obedient, like a dog. Morgan Freeman, Bob Hoskins, and Kerry Condin support this performance.
This movie presents a story with an interesting concept, that could have played off badly and caused a really flop fulla cheeze. But, instead, Jet Li shows that, at least in a role like this, he can act a bit. I’m sure that the wisdom of Mr Freeman rubbed off on his fellow cast members, elevating their performances as well. All in all, a surprise. Sometimes surprises are good.
I like karate/kung fu movies too, but I just cant seem to get into Jet Li movies. Just like I can’t get into a Woody Allen movie.
I thought the movie was ok. I thought they could have done a little more character development with Morgan Fre…oh who am I kidding? There was plenty of martial arts in the movie, I was happy.
I know what you mean MacBros. I’m the same way with Jackie Chan movies. Oh, and anything that Sarah Jessica Parker has anything to do with. I recently had to change my route to work because she was on a billboard advertising for HBO or cable or some crap like that.
