Lotte Mandel as Bubi
When in search of a comedy, one should stop at Prime. Even better, watch it! This movie was pure entertainment from beginning to end. Before describing any of it, I recommend it, and its not because Uma Thurman is in it (although that’s a major plus, don’t you think?). This film centers around three characters, a divorcee (Uma Thurman), her therapist (Meryl Streep), and her therapist’s son (Bryan Greenberg).

Prime is a sophisticated, character comedy set in New York City about Rafi (Uma Thurman), a recently divorced 37-year-old career woman from Manhattan and what happens when Dave (Bryan Greenberg), a talented 23-year-old painter from Brooklyn falls in love with her. The film looks at love from everyone’s point-of-view friends, relatives and in this case, Rafi’s therapist Lisa (Meryl Streep) and follows all who comes apart and some who pull it together, when two people fall in love.

This movie will challenge some fo your sensibilities, your feelings about relationships between two who are quite far apart in age, as well as religion. At the same time, you’re gonna laugh, as this awkward situation just begs for situational humor to erupt, and it does.

Right this second, I can sooooooo relate to that old lady wanting to hit her head with a skillet (see notes on my blog).

I loved Prime too, and I wasn’t expecting to. I’m really not into screwball comedies, and from the previews, that’s what it looked like I was in for. But those ads were misleading. It is so much better than what they showed.

    Great reviews, Corey!
