I saw the movie “Proof” the other evening and I recommend it.
Plot:
The daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician (recently deceased) tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance: his insanity. Complicating matters are one of her father’s ex-students who wants to search through his papers and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs.
This movie kept me interested from beginning to end. It wasn’t the kind of “grab your chair until your hands turn white” interest, but a different, “pay attention or you’re sure to miss something” kind of interest. I had no problems remaining alert throughout this movie.
Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow weaved a great web of a story for us to watch. The support from Jake Gyllenhaal and Hope Davis made this a really good story to watch. As Catherine (Paltrow) thinks through her own reality and compares it to her father’s transformation from sane to nutty, she wonders if she’s following in his footsteps , since she seems to have his mathematical talent as well. I did watch this one through to the end, and would again.
